You learn more about a person during their struggles than during their successes. Some of our challenges along the way include:
Possible Church was created to help pastors and churches that aren't perfect. We know that you can do more than survive. You can come through all of your challenges and a great future is possible.
Meet Steve Roberts, a self-described "church junkie" with a lifelong love for church health and growth. Growing up in rural Texas, just north of Dallas, Steve’s fascination with church life started early. He spent his childhood in small congregations of around 30 to 150 members, where he developed a deep appreciation for the unique challenges and beauty of smaller church communities.
Steve’s dedication only grew during his college years. While studying Theology, Business, and Biblical languages, he explored churches of all shapes and sizes, attending over 60 different congregations across various denominations. This journey, though unplanned, would ultimately shape his path in ways he couldn't have imagined.
In the nearly 30 years since college, Steve’s career has been anything but conventional. He sometimes jokes that he’s been a “ministry vagabond,” moving from role to role every few years. But looking back, he sees these moves more like “assignments”—different places and roles God led him to at the right time. Alongside him on this journey has been his wife, Angie, who served as a Children’s Pastor for 20 years. Together, they raised three kids who are now off in college, each taking a piece of their parents' passion for faith with them.
Steve has worn many hats in ministry: Youth Pastor, Care Pastor, Business Administrator, Associate Pastor, Entrepreneur, Executive Pastor, Family Life Pastor, Church Consultant, and more. Through all these roles, he’s come to realize that despite denominational differences, churches have much more in common than they have differences.
Over his 25 years of serving in local churches, Steve has had the privilege of witnessing real growth. Church attendance increased by a combined 2,600 people, and he saw over 7,000 individuals come to faith in Christ. Steve would be the first to say that this was all God’s work, not his own. What he’s proud of, though, is his commitment to listening, learning, and adapting along the way—a dedication that continues to guide him as he helps churches thrive.
When asked about his strengths, those who have worked with Steve consistently offer similar praise:
- He listens and makes everyone's job easier
- Operations run smoother under his guidance
- His discernment helps to prepare for future challenges
- He is exceptional at planning, initiating, and following-through
Now, as Steve and Angie focus on Possible Church, they have transitioned from vocational ministry to support smaller churches in achieving the level of health and success of which they have always dreamed.
